We’re thrilled to feature Sugar Land mama Anika Sayeed this week for our Meet a Mom! When not busy running her own blog (Mommy and Little A), Anika is busy raising her little one, Alayna and living life in Sugar Land. Read on to learn all about this local mom and her adventures as a parent!
Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in the Sugar Land area?
Originally from Bangladesh! I moved to the US in 2010 for higher studies and moved to Houston in 2015 after getting married.
Child(ren) & Age(s):
Alayna Sayeed, 18 months
One thing about living in the Sugar Land area that has surprised you the most:
The diversity and the different spots for the residents to explore. It is filled with amazing spots and so many family friendly places to visit.
What is your favorite place to grab a bite in town?
This is a tough one for me. We love food and love exploring new restaurants. Recently we’ve been to Tobiuo Sushi at La Centerra and loved it!
Favorite things to do/shops to visit in Sugar Land? (Basically anything that you absolutely adore that is local!)
My absolute favorite is to visit the Town Center. There is so much to do and lots of restaurants. We usually go there to dine, shop and grab coffee. It’s also great if you want to go for a stroll or a photoshoot 😉
Favorite memory or story that involves being in Sugar Land?
My mom visited me when I was pregnant, she wanted to go and chill somewhere. I took her to the Town Center and she had the best time! We walked around, had coffee and she probably spent hours at Z Gallerie. We walked, talked and just had such a relaxing day.
Tell us about your career and how you got involved in it.
I started at an NPO after I moved to Houston (they reached out to me via LinkedIn) and worked there for two years. After I had Alayna, I worked for three month and quit. I have been a stay-at-home mom since then!
One piece of advice you would want to share with moms.
There is no specific advice I can give. Motherhood is the most beautiful experience but it’s so different for each of us. All I want to say is do what you gotta do. Raise your kids the way you want, not because someone expects them to be a certain way. We are all in this together and here to support each other.
What’s the happiest moment of your life?
When I saw Alayna. Last few years have been very difficult for me. I lost my dad right after I got married and then my brother. My life completely changed and I never thought of being this happy. I am a big time daddy’s girl! The day I had Alayna, the moment I saw and held her – it made me so happy. Life had a whole new meaning!
What’s the funniest thing about being a parent?
HAH! This is a good one. Funniest part about being a parent at least for me is you do exactly the opposite of what you think you’re going to do when you become a parent. For example, when I was pregnant I always told my husband that I won’t be the person who lets their kid watch tv a lot and what not. Guess what? That went down the drain LOL!
Who is the most influential person in your life?
My mother. She is the most selfless person I know. Everything I have learned is from her. She is simply the sweetest and always puts her family first. Always there for everyone and also the most independent person I know. Thanks to my parents for so much encouragement!
What brings you the most joy right now?
Alayna and my husband make beautiful memories. Their bond is my absolute favorite! My dad is my entire world and watching Alayna sharing precious moments with her dad gives me so much joy.
