I was planning a 4th of July trip to Austin last month when I stumbled upon the coolest of discoveries — a brick and mortar ModCloth store located in Austin! For those of you not familiar with ModCloth, they’re a primarily online clothing retailer that specializes in indie and vintage-inspired looks with a modern twist and the company works incredibly hard to foster inclusivity for all body types. Lucky for us, we have one of the only four locations for their stores right here in Texas and I couldn’t go to Austin and not take the opportunity to visit one of my favorite brands.
I signed up for a personal stylist session thinking perhaps a little help in the wardrobe department would be useful for all the events I have to attend lately. I met up with the sweetest and most helpful stylist, Kimi, for my styling session. We started off by sitting down and chatting about what all I’m happy with in my current wardrobe and what I’d like to work on. Then she let me browse through the store and pick a few outfits I normally gravitate towards while she went through and assembled outfits for me to try out, based on our discussion. Spoiler alert guys: I ended up buying exactly zero of the items I picked up and literally got everything Kimi selected for me! She stayed true to my style but challenged me to try a smaller size and try more tapered looks all while staying well within the comfort zone of what I thought would work for my figure.
The entire experience was nothing short of revelationary for me because I actually felt excited about my outfits, all of which were so unique and complimentary to my size. There were dresses and blazers and strappy heels, all catered to my body type! I had hoped to walk out with a semi-decent outfit for my next event and instead I walked out with 10 essential pieces which Kimi designed to mix and match, creating a dozen combination or so of outfits that fit me beautifully! I seriously felt like Beyonce during the two-hour styling session and it was such an exquisite experience because every single thing in the store came in my size. I could have never imagined that a) I was wearing the wrong fit for my body type and that b) that it would have such an impact on my confidence level but the change in me was palpable.
Ladies, the next time you’re in Austin, you MUST schedule a free stylist appointment at ModCloth . I promise you’re going to be so pleasantly surprised with the items you end up walking out with that a ModCloth trek will become a part of your Austin routine. Plus, you can browse their website and if you want something fast, give the Austin store a ring (512-215-0927) and they’ll have it express shipped to you for free! As for me, I’ve got 3 upcoming events this month and my gorgeous outfits are already lined up, ready to go. And I’m already looking forward to planning my next trip to ModCloth Austin!
