Name: Amber Finley

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived (or worked) in the Houston/Sugar Land area?
I am originally from Baytown, Texas, moved to Sugar Land in 2008, and then to Rosenberg in 2012, so aside from my college years in Lubbock, I’ve lived in the Houston area pretty much my whole life.

Kids/Pets?
I have a 5 year old daughter and a 2 year old son.

One thing about living or working here that has surprised you the most?
The amount of community involvement there is in Sugar Land! It seems like there is always something going on in town, and there are always lots of people out enjoying the activities!

Can you provide me with a description of your business?
My husband, Derek, and I are full-time LuLaRoe clothing retailers. We run an in-home boutique and also host an online Facebook community where we sell our clothes (shirts, dresses, skirts, leggings, etc), but more importantly are able to connect with other women from all over the country! We strive to help women feel confident and beautiful in their own skin through fashion, to uplift others by building a close-knit online community, and to provide excellent customer service while achieving our dream of working at home alongside our children. Our clothes are unique, fashionable, and ultra comfortable! There’s something for everyone!

How long have you been in business?
We just celebrated our 2 year anniversary!

What made you decide to be an entrepreneur and open your own business?
I always dreamed of being a stay-at-home mom, but I also wanted to help with the family expenses so I sought after finding the perfect business that I could manage from home. I feel so blessed to have found LuLaRoe because now I get to do something I love, meet new people, and be at home with my kids. My husband was able to leave his 9-5 and be home with us full-time, so it’s a dream come true!

What do you enjoy the most about running a business?
The social interactions for sure! Through in-person experiences and our online community, we get to meet people from all over the country and from all kinds of backgrounds. It’s so much fun! And the messages I get from women telling me how they feel beautiful for the first time in a long time because of the clothes that they’ve bought from us make my heart so full. You can’t put a price on that, and it makes me happy to play even the smallest part in something that meaningful!

Have you always been entrepreneurial and a risk-taker?
It’s something that happened when we started planning for a family. I always knew I wanted to do my own thing so I could be at home. The freedom it has created for our family has been such a blessing! I tried a few different things before LuLaRoe, but once we found this business we knew it was a game-changer for us!

What did you used to do before you opened your own business?
I was a 2nd grade elementary school teacher.

Why is your place of business different from the rest?
What is really unique about our brand is that what you’ll find in our shop is completely different than what you’d find in another LuLaRoe retailer’s shop. We order by quantity and style, and the prints and solids we get are always a surprise to us until we open the box! We get completely new prints every week, and they’re always fresh and changing. Our customers love seeing what’s new each time. It’s literally like Christmas every time we get new inventory, and it’s such a blast!

Favorite place to grab a bite in Sugar Land?
Blaze Pizza. They’re fast, the pizza is great, and my kids will eat it. 😉

How do you unwind after a long week of adult-ing?
It’s rare with young kids haha, but we love to catch up on TV shows or movies we haven’t had a chance to watch yet. We’ll grab our favorite dessert and rent movies! On the weekends we will often take the kids out for a family day and explore a museum or new restaurant. We also love catching the Astros or the Skeeters when they’re playing in town.
I play the flute! One time I got to tour Europe with a band along with 100 other kids from across the U.S. to celebrate July 4th with a patriotic show, and it was the coolest experience! I was 16 years old. We visited 6 different countries!
